How Rough Is It?

Is it just me or have DMC threads become rough?

I've been working with some DMC over the last few days that I recently purchased from Joann's Fabrics. I really don't remember them being quite this stiff and rough. I know, I know, I'm a silk snob and DMC is a far cry from silk. But don't get me wrong, I still love a good skein of DMC every now and then! But seriously, even all of my hand dyed cotton fibers seem like silk compared to this DMC. Is it just me??????

Happy Stitching!

Hmmm I haven't noticed but then I have a good-sized collection of DMC going so its been a long time since I've had to buy anything new!

I noticed that a new skein looked a little wavy. It was not as smooth as some of the other skeins I was using for the project. My skein was dark green so I thought it might have had something to do with the dying process and the color. Interesting that someone else thinks something is going on.

Oh no! I haven't noticed. But then again I rarely use DMC. I just sell it ;)

I've noticed it as well. Of course, I've been working with over-dyes and silks lately! I've switched to a couple of projects the other day that use DMC and it's knotting on me like crazy. Seems like every other stitch I'm puling out a knot. And it's been very rough on my hands. Ugh.

I haven't noticed anything different with the DMC's and I just purchased a punch of them. Sometimes black seems a little rough, but I think that's because of the process they go through to get it that color.

Like you, I don't use DMC too much anymore but the few new skeins I have purchased do seem to knot and twist up on themselves a lot easier than I seem to remember from years past. It may just have a tighter twist to it or something, like a yarn that is over plied? If that's the case, no matter what it is made of, it will not feel/act very good.

I agree, DMC just isn't what it used to be... There are some colors that now when I use them feel awful in my hands, I don't know if they've switched their dyeing process, or are doing something different with the fiber itself, but I don't like it one bit.

I was just saying the same thing the other day to a fellow stitching while shopping for DMC the Jo Ann's floss sale. Rougher and more brittle in my opinion.

I haven't bought any recently but will have to see. I do love the feel of silk thread though too :)

I haven't purchased any DMC in quite a while ~ I have almost all the colors (LOL)! However, I have noticed that my WDW that I've been getting is kind of stiff...almost brittle-feeling. Huh...
